Privacy policy

Last updated October 20, 2026

Otti is built to be gentle with your data. Most of what you do in Otti, including your journal and mood check-ins, stays on your phone. This policy explains what we do collect, why, and how you can delete it.

The short version

  • Your journal, mood check-ins, quiz answers and otter progress are stored on your phone. We don’t receive them.
  • If you use the Raft to add friends, we store a small profile (your otter’s name and kind, a friend code, your streak and today’s step count), your friend connections, and the reactions and gifts you send.
  • If you give us your email (in the app or on this website), we use it only for your account, beta invites and launch news.
  • We don’t show ads, we don’t sell your data, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
  • You can delete your online data at any time. See Delete your account.

Information that stays on your device

Otti saves your otter (its name, kind, outfits and needs), your tiny steps and streak, pebbles and treasures, your journal entries and mood check-ins, your answers to the “get to know you” questions, and your reminder settings in your phone’s app storage. This information is not sent to us. Deleting the app removes it.

Daily reminders are scheduled locally on your phone. We don’t collect push notification tokens.

Information we collect when you use the Raft

The Raft is optional. The first time you open it, Otti creates an anonymous account for you (no name, email or password required) so friends can find your otter. We then store:

  • An anonymous account ID created by our database provider.
  • Your otter’s name and kind, and a random six-character friend code.
  • Your current streak, how many tiny steps you did today, and the date of your last update, so friends can cheer you on.
  • Who is in your raft, and the reactions (like a paw hold) and gifts you send and receive, including a preset note if you add one.

Only the friends you add can see your otter and progress. There is no public profile, no free-text chat and no follower count.

Your email address

In the app, you can add your email to keep your otter safe if you lose your phone. It is linked to your Raft account and used to help you recover it and to contact you about your account.

On this website, you can join the beta by giving us your email, which phone you use, and the page you signed up from. We use this to invite you to test Otti and to tell you when it launches. You can ask us to remove you at any time.

Health and wellbeing information

Otti asks about things like how you’ve been feeling, stress and sleep to suggest tiny steps. These answers, your mood check-ins and your journal stay on your phone and are not sent to us. Otti is not a medical service and does not diagnose or treat any condition.

How we use information

  • To run the Raft: show your otter to the friends you add and deliver reactions and gifts.
  • To keep the service safe, for example limiting how many reactions or gifts can be sent each day.
  • To send beta invites, launch news and important account messages.

Who processes your information

We use a small number of trusted providers to run Otti:

  • Supabase, which hosts our database and anonymous accounts.
  • Vercel, which hosts this website.
  • Apple and Google, which distribute the app through their stores under their own privacy policies.

These providers may process data in the United States and other countries. We don’t sell or rent your information to anyone.

How long we keep it

  • Raft data is kept until you delete it in the app or ask us to delete it.
  • Beta sign-ups are kept until Otti launches and for as long as you want launch news, or until you ask us to remove you.

Your choices and rights

You can delete all your Raft data in the app at any time (Raft tab → “Delete my raft data”). You can also email us to access, correct or delete information we hold about you. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws, and we will honour them.

Children

Otti is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you think a child has given us information, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and our database uses row-level security so people can only see what they’re allowed to see. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your information.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app.
